Our Program, through sponsorship from individuals, companies, and organizations, provides College Technology Readiness Kits that equip Black college-bound students with the top five essential technology tools they need to excel academically, participate fully in coursework, and bridge the technology gap from day one of college.
These students are often first‑generation college students or come from under‑resourced communities where technology gaps can quickly become achievement gaps.
A College Technology Readiness Kit includes a reliable laptop with long battery life, noise-canceling headphones for focus in noisy environments, a portable charger (power bank) for all-day campus use, external storage/SSD for backing up academic work, and a power strip/surge protector to support multiple devices in dorm rooms. Each student receives a complete, ready‑to‑use CREW Tech Kit prior to starting college. One kit directly supports one student’s educational journey and equipment is treated not as a handout, but as an investment into the student’s future.
CREW scholars are identified by a selection process that prioritizes students who demonstrate ambition, determination, and a clear plan for higher education, but lack access to necessary resources. If you demonstrate a financial need, you are a senior who is college-bound, accepted, and enrolled in a two‑year or four‑year post‑secondary institution, even if it’s an online accredited college, you can apply for a College Technology Readiness Kit by submitting a short application found on our "Apply Now" website page.
If you want to be an Ambassador, you can email us at ready@thecrewproject.org. We can always use an advocate and support. Your student referral could be just the email that the student needs to jumpstart their college experience.
If you would like to sponsor a student with a College Technology Readiness Kit, please contact us by email at ready@thecrewproject.org or simply complete the sponsorship form on the "Sponsor Now" page of our website.
The CREW Project closes this gap by providing a complete College Technology Readiness Kit to selected incoming college freshmen who demonstrate financial need or are referred by trusted community partners.

60%–75% of Black college-bound students enter college without a complete set of core technical essentials needed for modern college work. This estimate is derived by combining multiple peer-reviewed and civil-rights data points, not by guessing. DId you know that 6 to 7 out of every 10 Black students entering college lack at least one essential technical tool required for success.
Our Program recognizes a critical truth:
