The CREW Project is an educational equity initiative dedicated to ensuring Black, college‑bound students begin their college journey fully equipped, confident, and prepared to succeed in a technology‑driven academic environment.
At its core, The CREW Project removes barriers to success by combining essential technology access, guided support, and technical support—so students don’t just start college, they start strong.
The program recognizes a critical truth:
Access alone is not enough. Readiness matters.
The CREW Project serves:
These students are often first‑generation college students or come from under‑resourced communities where technology gaps can quickly become achievement gaps.
Our Program, through sponsorship from individuals, companies, and organizations, provides College Technology Readiness Kits that equip Black college-bound students with the top five essential technology tools they need to excel academically, participate fully in coursework, and bridge the technology gap from day one of college.
These students are often first‑generation college students or come from under‑resourced communities where technology gaps can quickly become achievement gaps.
A College Technology Readiness Kit includes a reliable laptop with long battery life, noise-canceling headphones for focus in noisy environments, a portable charger (power bank) for all-day campus use, external storage/SSD for backing up academic work, and a power strip/surge protector to support multiple devices in dorm rooms. Each student receives a complete, ready‑to‑use CREW Tech Kit prior to starting college. One kit directly supports one student’s educational journey and equipment is treated not as a handout, but as an investment into the student’s future.
CREW scholars are identified by a selection process that prioritizes students who demonstrate ambition, determination, and a clear plan for higher education, but lack access to necessary resources. If you demonstrate a financial need, you are a senior who is college-bound, accepted, and enrolled in a two‑year or four‑year post‑secondary institution, even if it’s an online accredited college, you can apply for a College Technology Readiness Kit by submitting a short application found on our "Apply Now" website page.
If you want to be an Ambassador, you can email us at ready@thecrewproject.org. We can always use an advocate and support. Your student referral could be just the email that the student needs to jumpstart their college experience.
If you would like to sponsor a student with a College Technology Readiness Kit, please contact us by email at ready@thecrewproject.org or simply complete the sponsorship form on the "Sponsor Now" page of our website.
The CREW Project envisions a future where:
Our long‑term goal is to scale CREW into a national model for college readiness and educational empowerment.
You can support The CREW Project by:
Together, we can ensure students are not just enrolled but equipped, confident, and ready.
Today’s college experience assumes students have:
For many Black students—particularly first‑generation and low‑income students—this assumption creates an immediate disadvantage before classes even begin.
Without proper tools, students face:
The CREW Project exists to remove these barriers before they become obstacles.
The CREW Project equips Black college‑bound seniors with the top five tech essentials they need to succeed from day one of college—so they can focus on learning, not limitations.
